Once you have the radio set to your taste, then go through and save all of your hyper memories at that time. It also save all of your menu options, except crossband repeat. Programming can be a little quirky, and you need to keep in mind that when setting a hyper memory, it does more than save your channels.
I've run the thing all day at 5 Watts and the radio keeps on kicking out a nice clean signal.
I run this radio all the time as a base 2M/70cm radio, and mostly as a full duplex crossband repeater for my AllStar node. Then, as for the the potential upside, does anyone actually do FM on 6m or 10m? Also, it looks like there is only one antenna connector on this radio, so I guess that means I'd need a quad-band antenna. After going through various radios, this radio is the workhorse of my station. Are there any other drawbacks or downsides to the 8900 I should be aware of? I was looking at the Yaesu 8800 but then noticed that the 8900, which adds the 6- and 10 meter bands, is not a lot more expensive than the dual-bannd 8800.Īs far as I can tell, the only downside is that the 8900 only goes up to 35W on 70cm instead of 50W for the 8800. I am thinking about putting the 2900 to other uses and buying a radio with a detachable/remote head for use in the car. That said, I do have another use for the 2900, so this may be more of an opportunity than a problem.
I've pretty much come to the conclusion that it is not going to be possible to mount my FT-2900R in my 2010 Ford Fusion in any kind of practical way (but do feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). r/amateursatellites/ - Satellite weather RX /r/Amsat - Amateur Radio Satellites r/mursradio/ - related to the Multi-Use Radio Service in the USA. r/hamcasters - ham related youtube, podcasts and more r/hamdevs - Hardware/Software Development r/flexradiosystems - Flex Your SDR Muscles r/EmComm - Subreddit For Emergency Communications
